“This moment is the only thing that is real
Yesterday seems like a weary ghost
And tomorrow an enigma
I wrestle with both and grow tired”
-RNLH
In order to be “sane” and not feel overwhelmed, I ground myself by proclaiming what is happening in the very moment that I am in. “This moment I am typing some words on my blog”. It has been for the past week a very grounding thing to do. I have a vision for myself and my purpose is becoming clearer and clearer to me each day. However, if I think too much about what was and what can be, I become too overwhelmed and I need to ground myself. I breathe deeply and proclaim the moment. Sometimes movement helps and so I take a walk or I do some asana (yogic poses) and then sometimes I just sit, be still and breathe. There is this amazing song by Ray LaMontagne called Be Here Now: “Don’t let your mind get weary and confused..
your will be still; don’t try…” Hmmm — it’s such a luscious and nurturing song. As I am typing I am listening to the song and picturing my grandma holding me singing those words to me. Listen to it and picture someone who represents comfort doing the same to you.
What do you do to ground yourself in the present moment? Would love to hear from you.
